The Battle

Hey Everyone,

Nick here. So this semester in school I’m taking a poetry class (it was the only class they had left to fulfill the requirement). So I decided to share my poems with you guys to get your thoughts on them. Warning: I am not a poet. So heres the first one I had to write. It’s called The Battle. Enjoy!

The Battle

By Nick Hossan

Two people, standing face to face in a field

There are no words, no expressions,

just two blank faces, faces that know

the path they must follow Here there

are no referees, no timeouts, no penalties

just life or death

As the clouds roll in, as the sky begins

to darken, the two draw their

weapons The battle has begun

They dash towards each other

One strike after another The light

and darkness have collided like the sun

fighting against the dark skies

The battle rages on, a victor

still undetermined The most important

battle between the two stands at a

stalemate Will this battle ever end

Hours later, exhausted but fighting harder

than ever, the dark slips up

The sword goes straight through, like

cutting a hole straight through paper

They both stand there, blank expressions

The light rips the sword from the dark,

he falls, no return The light looks at his hands

knowing the outcome signaled by the blood that

stains them The battle is over, but the war is just

looming over the world.
